New Jersey Belly dancing Workshop & show with Soraya

Soraya of NJ presents a demonstration and mini show on the subject of Egyptian belly dancing and stage technique for the University. Many students and faculty staff were treated to shimmies, a bellydance lesson and smiles in celebration of world culture and woman’s history.

Of Middle Eastern heritage and residing at the Jersey Shore, Soraya is an internationally acclaimed Raks Sharki artist, choreographer, producer, philanthropist and also holds a BA degree in cultural Anthropology and Sociology from Stockton with an emphasis in Middle Eastern studies.

In this clip, Soraya presents an Egyptian Al-Jeel and Shaabi style pop music choreography using Egyptian hand percussion called “Sagat” or “Zills”. The song is from a beloved Egyptian Sha’abi singer.

More of this two hour workshop to be uploaded at a future date.
